Here is the Lady Christina entering the town of Muiden through the town lock. Outside the town is the Markemeer, which is higher than inland, so a boat has to go down to go in. Or it might be the other way round. It depends on the tide, except there isn’t one. So maybe it’s just at the Whim of the Muidenistas.
This lock is positioned next to a cafe, so the residents can have a coffee and watch the boaters crash into the wall, bounce off other boats, yell at each other or stall their engine. The boat next to us had an engine that wouldn’t start. But that once happened to us here- took three attempts to get going. How we pretended not to care!
Here is Tot Zien’s top tips for re-starting a diesel engine:
- Don’t let it stop
- Put fuel in
- Put the right fuel in
- Say pretty please
- Pretend not to care
- Lift the deck and peer knowingly at the engine for 5 minutes, saying ‘mmm’.
- Remember to charge the battery and fire up your time machine
- Use another battery
- Use another engine
